Java Jamboree

I'm in Canada at the moment getting that travel fix again. I was lucky enough to be asked to photograph Java Jamboree coffee shop in Cochrane as it will be featured in Avenue magazine in August. Cochrane is just outside of Calgary - a small town in the midst of the Rockies. The shop has a great atmosphere - the food and coffee are amazing and the owner Jessica Johnston (originally from Sydney) has really done a great job with turning this place into a vibrant spot for the localsJess has been working on a great food menu the last couple of months and I can say for myself that it is delicious - especially the grilled chicken salad featured below. Java have the best equipment -featured below is Emily, one of the baristas, working on their 3 group Synesso espresso machine, which is handcrafted in Seattle. Java Jamboree uses espresso from Phil & Sebastian, a Calgary based roaster. They also brew coffee by the cup using these glass Chemex brewers, designed in the 40s by a German chemist and manufactured in the US; they are featured in the permanent collection at MOMA. Most of the baking is done in house by Jess and her manager, Meaghan. The most popular items are the berry scones pictured below. If you happen to be travelling to Canada and driving through the Rockies, definitely stop by Java Jamboree for coffee or lunch - you won't be disappointed.
